Learning Spanish

Spanish is one of the most widely-spoken languages in the world with 480m people having it as their native language and another 75 million who speak it as a second language (that is second only to Mandarin Chinese and more native speakers than English with 379m – more information and lists here).

Spanish is the primary language of 20 countries worldwide and is spoken widely across North and South America and Europe.

Spanish is a relatively easy language to learn as a beginner because it follows grammatic rules fairly consistently and the pronunciation is straightforward, with every letter being pronounced and usually with the same sound in all contexts (unlike, say, English which is very inconsistent and can have multiple ways of pronouncing the same letter combinations – think of “through”, “rough”, “bough” for starters!).
